COMMANDERS SASHES

PLUMES AND feathers

During this period most of helmets and hats were topped by plumes. Napoleon was not especially smaller than his soldiers, but he was often surrounded by "grenadiers de la garde", who were minimum 1,80 m high and topped by bear hat with plumes that make them 2,60 m high. At this time the emperor was effectively looking like a "petit caporal"! Horsehair was used for helmets .
